The Livingston Parish Sheriff's Office is warning parish residents about scammers who pretend to be deputies.

The scammers reportedly tell intended victims that they owe fines and court costs for past citations, and threaten them with arrest if they don't pay via CashApp or gift cards.

The sheriff's office says real government entities don't call people on the phone to demand money or threaten arrest.

Anybody contacted by scammers is asked to call the sheriff's office.
