What is happening in our society that it's ok to open fire at a Mother's Day parade? This tragedy in New Orleans' 7th Ward was our big story of the hour all morning. Police believe up to three thugs fired into the crowd striking 19 people including two children. Thank God no fatalities. Our question was what can be done to stop incidents of violence like these? 

I’ve heard everything from greater police presence, to tougher penalties, to arming the public and snipers on the roofs, but in the end it’s just a stop gap finger in the wall holding back a growing force of disrespect and evil.  I believe the answer lies with parents, teachers, police and communities wherever kids reside.  “Train up a child in the way he should go and even when his is old he will not depart from it.” Proverbs 22:6.  People aren’t born thugs, but left to their own devices some kids will become them. 

Star Trek Into Darkness will now open on Thursday, July 16th instead of Friday, July 17th. Imax theaters across the country will also offer an early viewing on Wednesday, July 15th, at 8 pm.  

The members of a high school track and field relay team in Columbus, Texas, found themselves barred from taking parking in the state championship competition after the anchor of the four-member, 4x100-meter squad pointed his finger up at the heavens in a sign of thanks to God. Officials said the gesture violated a League regulation against excessive celebration, which got the entire 4x100-meter squad disqualified and effectively barred from the state championships.
