In the wake of Lance Armstrong's doping confession last week after
years and years of vehement denials, many people were wondering what singer
Sheryl Crow, who dated the cyclist from 2003 to 2006 and had been engaged
to him, would have to say. In a new Entertainment Tonight interview that
aired Tuesday (January 22nd), Crow, who was promoting her upcoming stint as a
guest mentor on The Voice, said, "I think that honesty is always the best
bet and that the truth will set you free. It must be really hard to walk around
knowing you are not telling the truth about something. So I always contend that
the truth is the best way to go." Crow was with Armstrong during his last two
Tour de France wins -- which have since been stripped -- but it's unclear how
much she knew about his doping. She reportedly was interviewed during the
federal investigation into Armstrong's doping and shared information she knew.
In an interview with Katie Couric last September, after Armstrong was
stripped of his Tour wins but before he came clean, Crow said, "I know how hard
he worked to win those titles, and you know, it was hard to watch. I felt bad. I
felt bad for him, I felt bad for his family, and I kinda felt like the rest of
America. He is a hero that we watched and looked up to and admire." Crow has not
kept in touch with Armstrong since their split.
