The healthclub chain Downsize Fitness is intended for people who are often
embarrassed to go to the gym because of their size, requiring its members to be
at least 50 pounds overweight. Other attempts to make its larger-sized clientele
feel comfortable include having no mirrors inside the clubs, fogged windows so
people outside can't see in, and equipment designed for heavier people. The
first Downsize Fitness locations opened in Chicago and Las Vegas in 2011, and
the chain expanded to Dallas in 2012.
