In the wake of the Newtown school massacre, one of the societal targets of
blame was graphic media violence in video games, movies and TV shows. But
Arnold Schwarzenegger is rejecting any such connection, saying film
violence is entertainment and shouldn't be linked to tragic events like the
Connecticut mass shooting. Schwarzenegger, who comes at the issue both as a
former California governor and as an action movie star, said at a press
conference before the opening of his new film, The Last Stand, that,
quote, "one has to keep [the two] separate. [This is] entertainment and the
other thing is a tragedy beyond belief." Instead, Schwarzenegger said, "We have
to analyze how we deal with mental illness, how we deal with gun laws, how we
deal with parenting. . . . Everything has to be analyzed; no stone unturned. I
think that's what we owe to our people."
