In a story that offers a cautionary tale about speaking about your job on social
media, Business Insider reports that a Pennsylvania man was fired from
his job as comptroller at AO North America for tweeting that his work
environment was "toxic" and that his co-workers were, in his words, morons,
dysfunctional, psychotic, and schizophrenic.

What makes the story even more of a warning, however, is that when Stephen
Burns applied for unemployment benefits, he was denied for violating his
employer's code of conduct, which says that, quote, "employees are to treat each
other with respect, and harassment of any kind to another employee, customer or
vendor would not be tolerated." Despite the fact that his company didn't have
social media policies, Business Insider reports that this Twitter posts
were regarded as a, quote, "violation of a reasonable work rule."
