BRPD: Suspect Broke Into Woman's Home With Axe, Sexually Assaulted Her

A Baton Rouge man is in custody, accused of breaking into a woman's home with an axe and sexually assaulting her.

Police responded on Wednesday to a call about suspicious activity on Boulevard de Province near I-12. When officers showed up, the suspect ran away, but police caught him.

He was later identified as 24-year-old Joseph Hayes, and was accused of the sexual assault that occurred on Saturday.

Hayes is charged with rape, burglary, drug possession with the intent to distribute, and sexual battery.
