The state Senate will consider a bill to eliminate poison gas as a means of execution in Louisiana.

Democratic Senator Katrina Jackson-Andrews of Monroe is a death penalty opponent who authored SB430.

Jewish faith leaders rallied on the Capitol steps on Tuesday, demonstrating against the new method of execution because it serves as a reminder of the Holocaust.

The bill passed out of the Senate Judiciary B committee on Tuesday.

If it passes, the state will retain lethal injection and the electric chair as methods of execution.
