The East Baton Rouge Municipal Fire and Police Civil Service Board has a new chairman.

The previous chair, Brandon Williams, resigned on Monday night as members of the city's Metro Council tried to force him out of the position.

At issue was Williams's reluctance to comply with an appeals court ruling that it was illegal for him to serve on the civil service board and the board for the Louisiana Housing Corporation at the same time.

The Metro Council passed a motion to replace Williams with Bill Johannessen.
