La. Legislature Creates Incentive To Help State Police Hire New Troopers

The Senate Finance Committee is supporting a plan to help the Louisiana State Police hire and retain more troopers.

Committee members unanimously voted for the plan on Monday.

House Speaker Clay Schexnayder's plan sets aside $5 million for the state to use in offering a $5,000 incentive to each State Police recruit.

Schexnayder says they got the idea from other states, especially Florida.

He says the Sheriff's Association, the Police Chief's Association, and State Police are on board with the idea.
