A new ExxonMobil plastics plant is now online in Baton Rouge.
Gov. John Bel Edwards was on hand for the ceremony marking the start of operations for the Polypropylene Growth Project on Thursday.
The project will double ExxonMobil's polypropylene production, adding 450,000 metric tons a year.
Polypropylene is used in lightweight automotive parts and other familiar products.
The new plant creates nearly 300 new jobs for the Capital Region.
