A Baton Rouge police officer is on administrative leave following his arrest for domestic violence.

Officers arrested Michael Mitchell, 27, on Wednesday morning for an incident that reportedly happened in September.

Mitchell was reportedly in uniform when he had an argument with his girlfriend after he got home from work.

Investigators say Mitchell hit the victim in the face with his handgun and threatened to shoot her. He's charged with domestic abuse and malfeasance in office.
