Louisiana's Insurer Of Last Resort Seeks Increase In Line Of Credit

The state's insurer of last resort is looking for an increase in its line of credit.

Louisiana Citizens Property Insurance Corporation will ask the state bond commission today for permission to make the change.

The insurer has inherited thousands of policies from companies that have failed or left the state after recent hurricane seasons.

Citizens has issued 103,000 policies as of this week, and CEO Richard Newberry says the line of credit should be raised from $50 million to $125 million.
