Bishop Michael Duca of the Diocese of Baton Rouge is updating pandemic protocols for the diocese.

Because of declining infection rates in the Baton Rouge area and statewide, masks will no longer be required in churches or indoors in other parochial facilities.

Masks will also be optional in the diocese's Catholic schools.

Duca says the change in policy is effective immediately. He still encourages masks for those who feel vulnerable.
