Just before landfall, Hurricane Harvey reached category 4 strength with maximum winds of 130 miles per hour as of 6 p.m. Friday.
The storm's northwest motion had also slowed a bit to 8 miles per hour.
Landfall is expected along the Texas coast late Friday night or early Saturday morning.
