Stormwatch: 2 Areas Of Interest Wednesday

The National Hurricane Center is now watching two areas of interest as the first month of hurricane season continues.

One remains the possibility of a broad area of low pressure forming over the northwestern Caribbean Sea by the weekend. Slow development is possible as that system drifts into the Gulf of Mexico early next week. It has a 20% chance over the next five days of becoming something stronger.

The other is a tropical wave far out in the Atlantic well south of the Cabo Verde Islands. Forecasters say showers and thunderstorms associated with the wave diminished as of Wednesday afternoon. Any further development, if any, is expected to be slow as it races west around 20 miles per hour. Formation chances top out at 20%.
